FPCs needing feedback

Lake St. Clair

Camp Camp

[edit]

Hi, not sure whether to raise this on the English Wikipedia or Commons. Anyway

If there was no crack and no cropping of the cathedral then the answer would be C. Alternatively if there was originally no cropping of the cathedral then the answer would be B. Any clues as to what should be done?

P.S. Zoom in on the pictures, there is a lot of fascinating detail. Alex Sims (talk) 12:26, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Alex Sims, the best version is This. It needs restoration. The crack can be removed, and the borders should be removed. Then we can do a "delist and replace" nomination. That's the norm in situations like this. Bammesk (talk) 03:52, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Removing the crack I think is beyond me. I can see the crack is clean and somehow the irregular shaped piece needs to be moved a bit closer to close the crack. Where can I appeal for someone with more skills and expertise to make this repair? Alex Sims (talk) 02:22, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Editors at Commons:Help desk or at WP:GL/PHOTO might be willing to do it. Some editors at WP:FPC can do it too (including me), and they visit this talk page occasionally. I am not inclined to restore this image myself. Generally I don't do restorations by request. FYI, sometimes restorations can be daunting and time consuming chores. What is "EV"?

[edit]

I've seen some people talking about "EV". What is it? Mittzy (talk) 23:42, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This should answer your question. ZZZ'S 23:49, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

An FP has been nominated for deletion on the Commons

[edit]

A photograph (File:Lincoln, NE EF3 tornado.jpg) has been nominated for deletion on the Wikimedia Commons. I am not sure what the procedure is, so I am mentioning it here. The Weather Event Writer (Talk Page) 20:44, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If we're going to start allowing 3D models as featured pictures, we may as well start allowing all kinds of educational high quality non-text multimedia that fit in, such as audio. Imo, we should rename the project to Featured Multimedia. ―Howard🌽33 20:26, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I’m against adding audio because that’s not visual. I don’t think renaming this project is necessary either. Regards, Armbrust The Homunculus 20:57, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Agree with Armbrust. OTOH, a picture of a 3D model is a picture... Janke | Talk 12:52, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Grounds for delisting?

[edit]

File:Chicago_Skyline_Hi-Res.jpg dates to 2006. There have been multiple changes to the Chicago skyline since then, including the construction of Trump International Hotel and Tower (Chicago), the vertical expansion of Blue Cross Blue Shield Tower, and probably much more. Is this grounds for delisting? I rather think it is, as the image's encyclopedic value is much diminished. Thank you for your consideration. 199.66.14.55 (talk) 20:01, 10 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Just being dated is not sufficient to delist. We do have historic and semi-historic FPs after all. The photo shows the skyline in 2006. There is value in that. The photo can serve and enhance various articles as is, for example in sections describing the history or the development of metropolitan Chicago. Bammesk (talk) 19:41, 14 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
