Wikimedia UK/Wikimania 2006

[edit]

Hi, this is a circular to Wikipedians in Ireland to draw your attention to Wikimedia UK, where the establishment of a local Wikimedia chapter for the United Kingdom (and possibly for the Republic of Ireland) is being discussed. See the talk page, as well as the mailing list; a meetup will take place to discuss matters in London in September, for anyone who can get there. On another topic, plans are being drawn up for a UK bid for Wikimania 2006, which would be conveniently close to Ireland. On the other hand, Dublin's bid was one of the final three last year - might we bid again? --Kwekubo 04:09, 31 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Questionable Content

[edit]

You like it too, eh? Nik Taylor introduced me to it. There's some computer-related stuff on a proposal by Quentin that could use your input.

Hey, Daniel! Love it: it's a daily read for me. I think I found it through a mixture of Diesel Sweeties and Nothing Nice to Say. Yeah, I've been a little busy with stuff lately and IB's slipped out of my radar lately. I'll take a look at it. --Kgaughan 22:47, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

LZW article

[edit]

Hi,

In the LZW (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LZW) article someone has messed things up.. for example in the dictionary example someone has written A B C D instead of T O B E etc... and there seem to be other changes that dont make total sense. I have no expertise on LZW and since I see you have contributed in the discussion page, please change it so that it is fixed :)

Racing silks

[edit]

I disagree with this merger – racing silks is a different subject to jockey and has the potential to make an interesting article. -- Zafonic (talk) 20:07, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Zafonic. The merge had been on the cards for over a year. The earlier, and slightly dubious, edit by R Game notwithstanding (which they'd also made to the Jockey article itself), it was a stub that hadn't been edited for quite some time. It may have the potential to be an interesting article, but right now, I think it's best as a section of the Jockey article that can be split out when it's fleshed out some more. When that's done, I'd support it being split out. --Kgaughan (talk) 20:35, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ethnic categories

[edit]

Hi. Per WP:BLP "The article explicitly mentions that she'd of Irish descent, and Gaughan is an Irish name" is not sufficient to add an ethnic category to an article on a living person. If you can find reliable sources to support your claim, please feel free to restore the category. If not, not. --John (talk) 19:02, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm... I'd hoped the link to the author's site where she mentioned in her bio that she's of Irish descent would be enough, but if it's not, it's not. Reference pointing directly to the author's bio added. --Kgaughan (talk) 20:02, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm (2)... that isn't a very good reference but I'll let it stand for now. The article seems to lack much assertion of notability and may have to be deleted anyway. If you have other, better references, now would be a good time to add them. --John (talk) 20:09, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
IMDB is really not a good reference for Steve Coogan's ethnicity. It is actually less reliable than Wikipedia, which of course we are not allowed to use as a source. Again though, I'll let it stand for now. A better source would be good though if you are keen for this category to remain on the article. --John (talk) 02:09, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, and another small point: "Reverting overzealous revert" is not an accurate edit summary. The only revert I have made on that article was unconnected with categories. --John (talk) 02:11, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dublin 4

[edit]

Hi, saw your recent edit on the above article. There was a cliché about Dublin 4 being allegedly liberal, possibly from the referenda of the 1980s and 1990s. I've started a section on the talk page to discuss it and any references that are relevant.Autarch (talk) 12:33, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Noreen, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Nora (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
