Wikipedia:Requests for page protection
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here. | ||
---|---|---|
Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection) After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Current requests for increase in protection level
Place requests for new or upgrading of article protection, upload protection, or create protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.
Indefinite extended confirmed protection: Arbitration enforcement – WP:CT/AI. Skitash (talk) 15:20, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
- Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. And not enough nexus to the current conflict. Daniel Case (talk) 19:35, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
- I don't think it's farther related from the conflict than Syria Palaestina, which is extended protected despite Rome falling hundreds if not thousands of years before thecurrent conflict. Heyaaaaalol (talk) 22:19, 20 December 2024 (UTC)

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – The LTA themself likes to vandalise this page from time to time, so I reckon it shall be indef semi-protected. — AP 499D25 (talk) 01:36, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
Reason: High level of IP vandalism, ramping in the past week. There is an IP vandal who repeatedly corrupts articles about the Little League World Series, and the article about the 2014 edition is, for whatever reason, the current target of this vandal. The vandal changes IP addresses, so banning the vandal would be welcome, but likely insufficient. As this event happened a decade ago, there are few to none edits being made to it. Dmoore5556 (talk) 02:06, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Persistent disruptive editing from Nigerian IP user. CurryTime7-24 (talk) 02:18, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
Reason: I request page protection for resumption of acts of vandalism, following the removal of the previous protection. Deleterious actions by unregistered users Podgoričano (talk) 02:27, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
Semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry. Jet Pilot (talk) 03:08, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – LTA target; returned after expiry of previous protection. Chris 🎄(Happy holidays!) 03:25, 21 December 2024 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – LTA target. Chris 🎄(Happy holidays!) 04:18, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
Reason: A redirect to view-source URI scheme that I see little reason for unregistered or new users to edit. Because this phrase appears on protected pages, in my opinion, it could incite unregistered and new users intending to make bad faith edits to vandalize this page, for a similar reason Edit, Help:Editing, and Wikipedia:Editing policy are semi-protected. Z. Patterson (talk) 04:45, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
Reason: JavaScript code that is a subpage of Wikipedia:Tools, a semi-protected page. An unscrupulous editor could change the code to have this code malfunction. Since the title is "Wikipedia:Tools/View source", I see little reason for unregistered or new users to edit this code. Because this phrase appears on protected pages, in my opinion, it could incite unregistered and new users intending to make bad faith edits to vandalize this page, for a similar reason Edit, Help:Editing, and Wikipedia:Editing policy are semi-protected. Z. Patterson (talk) 04:49, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Continued IP vandalism. JMEV has no headquarters in Hong Kong, and the complete whitewashing of Nanchang is unexcusable. Zinnober9 (talk) 05:06, 21 December 2024 (UTC)

Reason: Page might need locking for only one day before the DII Football National Championship Game kicks off at 19:00 UTC to avoid any vandalism and/or warring throughout the game itself. Readyplayer2020 (talk) 05:13, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
Reason: Ultraviolet will be an anti-vandalism tool. When Ultraviolet is finished being worked on, it may become a highly visible page, similar to Wikipedia:RedWarn today. Z. Patterson (talk) 05:23, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
- Pages are not protected preemptively Heyaaaaalol (talk) 05:25, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
Reason: Chronic vandalism on contentious topic Orchastrattor (talk) 06:17, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
Current requests for reduction in protection level
Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.
- To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
- Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
- Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
- If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.
- January 2023 Speaker of the United States House of Representatives election (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
Reason: Given McCarthy's ousting and subsequent retirement, October 2023 Speaker of the United States House of Representatives election currently being unprotected, and how long ago this election was, I don't see the need for this page to be protected anymore. 100.7.34.111 (talk) 23:16, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
Reason: Protection is too high and it was for sockpuppetry in 2018. It's nearly 2025 now so if it needs protecting just do pending changes or semi-protection but unprotection would be better I think. 147.10.234.99 (talk) 23:19, 20 December 2024 (UTC)

Current requests for edits to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here
Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.
- Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among
{{Edit protected}}
,{{Edit template-protected}}
,{{Edit extended-protected}}
, or{{Edit semi-protected}}
to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed. - Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the
{{Edit COI}}
template should be used. - Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
- If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
- This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
Change 16,000 civilians (May 2024)[43] to 16,000 civilians (May 2024)[42]
Source 42 has these numbers and source 43 doesn't Alderman pained dios finnish (talk) 18:48, 15 December 2024 (UTC)
- The place to request this edit is Template talk:Israel–Hamas war infobox. I will note that while the VOA article does seem to have the civilian death toll in May, it does not have the November death toll (as it was written in May) Cmrc23 ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ 16:28, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
- Not done per Cmrc23. KOLANO12 3 22:12, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
Change "An May" to "A May"
It's in the United States section. PacktDotSpace (talk) 23:38, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
